*This page offers guides to tools and platforms for holding exams digitally (online exams) or for using digital tools to supervise, review and grade exams.*

At TU Graz you can hold exams entirely digitally (online exams). You can also use digital tools in exams that take place in the lecture hall, or have the exam written on paper in the lecture hall and use digital tools for the subsequent grading.

The [part of the statutes on virtual teaching and online exams](https://telucation.tugraz.at/en/articles/higher-education/03-virtual-teaching-addendum/) sets out the legal framework.

## TeachCenter Exam

Online exams have their own TeachCenter instance: the [TeachCenter Exam](https://exam.tugraz.at). Examiners can [create and manage exam courses](https://telucation.tugraz.at/en/guides/exam-management-tc-exam/) there on their own.

Students can [upload files](https://telucation.tugraz.at/en/guides/file-upload-tc/) or answer different kinds of questions in a [quiz activity](https://telucation.tugraz.at/en/guides/quiz-tc-exam/). Many question types are available, from classic multiple-choice questions to [mathematical tasks with STACK](https://telucation.tugraz.at/en/guides/stack-exams/) and [programming tasks with CodeRunner questions](https://telucation.tugraz.at/en/guides/programming-questions-coderunner/). [Random questions](https://telucation.tugraz.at/en/guides/random-questions-tc-exam/) are possible as well.

The TeachCenter Exam can also serve purely to manage exam questions, while the exam itself is still written in the lecture hall. The [Exam Printer](https://telucation.tugraz.at/en/guides/exam-printer/) lets you print TeachCenter exams. With the [offline test](https://telucation.tugraz.at/en/guides/offline-quiz-teachcenter-exam/) you can create a template for a multiple-choice exam that is scanned and graded automatically online.

Exams can be [graded](https://telucation.tugraz.at/en/guides/grading-tc-exam/) online, and the grades can be exported directly to TUGRAZonline.

To help students find their way around the TeachCenter Exam, you can recommend [the guide written specifically for students](https://telucation.tugraz.at/en/guides/exams-tc-exam-students/). Also recommended is the [course “Test your exam”](https://exam.tugraz.at/moodle/course/view.php?id=267), which covers all question types and gives an impression of the exam environment.

## Other exam platforms

Besides a quiz directly in the TeachCenter Exam, TU Graz offers further tools for conducting or supporting exams digitally. These tools are also accessed via the TeachCenter Exam.

[KnowledgeCheckR](https://telucation.tugraz.at/en/guides/exams-knowledgecheckr/) lets you hold online exams and detect irregularities through photos or mouse movements. The tool also offers an online chat during the exam.

[Gradescope](https://telucation.tugraz.at/en/guides/exams-with-gradescope/) is a tool for managing and grading written exams digitally, whether they take place online or in the lecture hall. Exam sheets are scanned and graded digitally with rubrics or automatically, which can be an advantage especially for exams with several examiners.

## Exam supervision (proctoring) and exam review

For digital exams you can use the [Safe Exam Browser](https://telucation.tugraz.at/en/guides/safe-exam-browser/), special software that prevents students from leaving the exam environment.

The TELucation article [Examining in times of AI](https://telucation.tugraz.at/en/articles/didactics/11-exams-in-times-of-ai/) presents further ways of safeguarding exams in the age of artificial intelligence.

Exam supervision is also possible via the video conferencing tools [Webex and BigBlueButton](https://telucation.tugraz.at/en/guides/bbb-webex-exams-teachers/). A later [exam review](https://telucation.tugraz.at/en/guides/post-exam-reviews/) can also take place digitally via these tools.

In any case, observe the legal framework and the [statutes on study law (Satzungsteil Studienrecht, PDF, German)](https://www.tugraz.at/fileadmin/user_upload/tugrazExternal/02bfe6da-df31-4c20-9e9f-819251ecfd4b/2020_2021/Stk_22/Satzungsteil_Studienrecht_10082021.pdf).
