With the Learning Goal Widget, you can graphically display learning objectives in the TeachCenter for students. Students can mark their current knowledge level for self-checking and see which material in the course belongs to which learning objective.
The widget consist of an overview of learning goals of the course. You can switch between learning goals (only text) and learning progress (also shows percentages) using the respective buttons.
The inner circle in the ring diagram view includes the subject areas, the outer circle the learning goals for the individual subject areas.
To the right of the widget, you can see the learning goals as text.
General overview of the learning goal widget
At the top right, you can see a button to switch between the ring diagram view and a box view (for accessibility).
The Learning Goal Widget is used for self-assessment of one's own learning progress.
The complete learning goals are displayed on mouse-over of the ring diagram or as a text on the right.
Mouseover shows the full text of the learning goal
After clicking on a learning goal and the button Progress View, the progress can be entered with a slider as a percentage. The subject areas and learning goals are then coloured according to the selection.
To edit the learning goals, click on the three dots next to the widget > Edit settings.
You can edit the learning goals in the section ”Themenbereiche und Lernziele” (Topics and Learning Goals). Please note that the editor interface is available only in German.
First you add a subject area. Each subject area needs a title and an optional short description, which is then displayed in the visualisation. In addition, you can also add a link (e.g. to the course section) which is then stored in the widget.
If you have inserted a subject area, you can now also insert a learning goal for the subject area. To do this, first select the subject area. Then click on "New learning goal” (Neues Lernziel). Now enter the title of the learning goal, an optinal short name of the learning goal to be displayed in the widget. You can also add a link to specific course content.
Please note: Learning goals must be assigned to a subject area.
Adding topics and learning goals (interface in German!)
Adding a new topic, the interface is in German!
Once you have defined all the subject areas and learning goals for your course, you can use them with the conventional Moodle functionalities: edit, delete, move up or down.
Sections in the TeachCenter are numbered consecutively; each section has a section number.
To link a section in the TeachCenter to a learning goal in the widget, the section number can simply be added to the course URL: [course_URL]#section-[section-number]; example: https://tc.tugraz.at/main/course/view.php?id=1559#section-3
If a section is moved in the TeachCenter, its section number will also change accordingly. The URL in the linked learning goals must then be adjusted!
PDFs uploaded to the TeachCenter can also be linked to learning goals: Simply open the PDF in the TeachCenter, copy the URL and paste it into the corresponding field in the learning goals editor. Only complete URLs (including https://) will work.
Changes to the widget, such as new subject areas and learning goals, will only be visible after a reload of the page.
In the end, the visualisation of the subject areas and the learning goals in the widget should be checked, as well as the links.
