Announcements work like a noticeboard. Teachers can post messages for all students there.
If there is a new announcement, students will receive a so-called site notification (indicated by the red bell next to their name).

However, students can also customize this setting and receive e-mails for each new announcement. An explanation on how to do this is provided below in this document.
The forum facilitates the exchange between students and lecturers as well as among students. Each TeachCenter course has a forum by default, which can be accessed via the main menu on the left.
Here, too, the following applies: If there is a new post in a subscribed forum, students will receive a site notification.
If they wish to also receive an e-mail, they can change this setting accordingly. An explanation on how to do this is provided below in this document.
There is the possibility to send direct messages in TU Graz TeachCenter. The default settings for messages differ from the settings for announcements and forum discussions: For each message you will automatically receive an email; in addition, a red number will appear with the messages (by the speech bubble next to the name). If students do not want to receive e-mails for this purpose, they need to change the settings accordingly.
After logging in, click on the speech bubble next to your name. The messages now open in the side bar and you can see your messages.

By clicking on the red gear, the notification settings can be adjusted. You can choose to receive each message as an e-mail when you're logged into TeachCenter (online) or when you're not currently logged in (offline).
The forum is a place dedicated to communication between teachers and students of a specific TeachCenter course. There you can post and read the contributions of other participants. The forum can be accessed via the main menu.

A new discussion topic appears as a number in a red circle on the dashboard and on the left side of the main menu. No e-mails are sent by default.

Subscribe to a forum
The announcements forum has forced subscription set by default. You cannot unsubscribe from this forum.
For optional forums, you can choose to subscribe to the forum and receive notifications, as described below.
You can subscribe to an entire course forum by clicking on the red gear in the top right of the forum. Click on Subscribe to this forum. You will then be notified of new posts.

To unsubscribe from the forum, click on the gear again and select Unsubscribe from this forum.
You can also decide to subscribe to only one discussion topic of a forum, e.g. if the teacher has created his/her own thread for Corona-related updates. To do this, click on the envelope on the right side of a thread. A closed envelope means that the topic has been subscribed to.

Go to the forum area and in the e-mail column select On or Off. In the example below, the student will always receive an e-mail notification for forum posts, whether they are logged in (online) or not.

You can also receive forum e-mails in digest form instead of being notified individually for each post.
